Testimonials

Oct. 20, 2010

My wife and I were referred to Lisa via a co-worker. As we were expecting our first child and didn't have any family members who could assist us post childbirth, we asked Lisa if she could help us from the day the baby was born and for several days thereafter. We were hoping Lisa could give us some 'downtime' by taking care of the baby (especially during nights) and also educate us in taking care of the child. Lisa joined us at the hospital and helped us take care of the baby for many days after the baby was born. She advised us on feeding and educated us on swaddling, how to keep the baby awake during the daytime (to improve nighttime sleep), how to reduce crying, etc. Right from day 1, it was clear to us that Lisa had the necessary experience. She's easy to work with and flexible in terms of how we split baby care responsibilities with her. We learned a lot from her and would certainly ask for her help again if we have another child. While many people are fortunate to have a parent assist post-childbirth, we didn't have that luxury. Besides it may not be possible to get the help of a parent for several days which would make help from someone like Lisa invaluable. I was very thankful to my co-worker for recommending Lisa to us and likewise we would have no hesitation in recommending her to others.

My husband and I decided to hire a postpartum doula after our first night home with our new baby girl, Frances. We were both extremely sleep deprived and feeling pretty overwhelmed about how we were going to manage the next few days. We were lucky to find Lisa, and after talking with her on the phone she seemed to be exactly what were looking for. We decided that it would be most helpful to have her assist us with getting Frances to sleep at night so that we too could ultimately sleep.

We hired Lisa for a total of three nights. The first two nights she took care of Frances, only bringing her to us for feedings, which allowed us to catch up on sleep. During those two nights Lisa experimented with different strategies to help get Frances adapted to sleeping at night. The third night, with Lisa's guidance, we simulated what we thought would be a typical night with our new baby. It was unbelievable how different that night was from our first sleepless night. With the exception of waking up for routine feedings, Frances, my husband I were all able to sleep through the night. Among other things, Lisa had showed us that a good swaddle was necessary to get our baby to sleep comfortably and peacefully.

Quite honestly, my husband and I were a little apprehensive about inviting someone we had never met into our home to take care of our new baby. But, from the moment Lisa walked through the door we felt very comfortable with her. She came in with a confident, take charge attitude, which immediately put our minds at ease. She reminded us of Mary Poppins or the quintessential Grandmother. We would highly recommend her services to anyone who is feeling overwhelmed in those initial days of parenthood or is just in need of a little assistance. For us, it was certainly one of the best investments we've made!

As first time parents, the imminent arrival of our child filled us with both anxiety and excitement. We had just moved to Charlotte, and did not have the usual family resources to rely on, so we looked long and hard for a post-partum doula to help with this stressful transition. After narrowing our choices down, our interview with Lisa went so well that we knew right away she was the one. Not only is Lisa a mother and grandmother, but her own daughter had recently given birth by caesarean section, which was important to us, as my wife was planning to deliver the same way. We really wanted someone familiar with the particular care that entails after the trip home from the hospital.

Our first night home was extremely stressful, as my wife could do nothing, but needed everything. Nerves started to fray, and stress levels skyrocketed. When the situation became completely overwhelming, Lisa arrived at our front door, and was an immediate calming presence for both of us. My wife felt that she could hand over her newborn and gain much needed sleep without any fear or hesitation. Her advice was thorough and true, based on years of experience, both personal and learned. Reliability is often overlooked these days, but Lisa was always on time, if not early, and had wonderful availability as to the dates that she could help us.

We still use Lisa from time to time, as needed, and we both wholeheartedly recommend her without reservation to anyone looking for that extra measure of comfort during those first few days and weeks home from the hospital.

Sincerely
Dr. John and April Aryan
